Newmatic Elevators has introduced a new lift in the UK suitable for the domestic market.

Made from fire-resistant, bullet-proof Perspex with aluminium and steel frames, the company says the lift needs relatively little space, no excavation and no additional supporting structure. Rather than using cables, pulleys or pistons, the lifts work by varying the air pressure above and below the lift car to transport the car up to four storeys.

The lift car can only descend at a certain speed, so if there is a power failure, it returns gently to the bottom floor, where a manual override opens the door.

Newmatic’s lifts are available in two sizes – the 1m diameter version comfortably takes two people and the 1.37m diameter version can accommodate a wheelchair and another person.
