Roads contractors will get millions of pounds of work from the 30-year £6.2bn deal to upgrade the M25, the chief of the group completing the project has said

Tim Jones, chief executive of Connect Plus, a joint venture between Atkins, Balfour Beatty, Skanska and Egis, said 35 multimillion-pound jobs would be let in the £1.2bn road widening part of the deal, along with hundreds of smaller contracts, such as piling, lighting and safety fencing.

The PFI project, finally signed last week, will involve large sections of the motorway being widened, and the Hatfield Tunnel on the A1(M) being rebuilt, employing 5,000 people.
