Improvement comes as McTaggart Construction says jobs hit by delays in starting on site

Scottish affordable homes specialist McTaggart Construction improved margins last year despite turnover falling because of delays to jobs starting.

The Ayrshire contractor which works for housing associations and local authorities said revenue was down 3% to £87m but pre-tax profit was up a quarter to £6.4m for the year to March 2026.

In a note accompanying the accounts, the firm said: “The year has shown a slight decrease in turnover on the level achieved in 2025 due to uncertainty in our core operating market resulting in delays in achieving site starts.

“The company has however delivered an improved margin due to a focus on wider business efficiencies and improved processes.”

Cash at the year-end fell from £14m to £8m.

The wider group, which has been celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, also includes a timber frame business and an M&E firm.
