Architect Marks Barfield is designing 11 residential buildings in the Dubai Arts District

The 1.4bn dirham (£232m) district, which will combine offices, homes and recreational facilities for people working in creative industries, is being developed by Kuwait-based Abyaar. David Marks, Marks Barfield’s managing director, said the 26ha district was “really unusual” for Dubai because 80% of it was covered in parks and lakes. The pastel shades and wavy shapes of the buildings are meant to evoke desert sand.
