The second of the two Hungerford footbridges linking the South Bank of the Thames in central London with Charing Cross on the north bank was opened last Saturday. Architect Lifschutz Davidson's and engineer WSP Group's design replaces the previous pedestrian crossing with two 315 m footbridges suspended by cables from steel pylons. Contractor on the £39.5m project was a Costain–Norwest Holst joint venture, design engineer was Gifford and Partners, consultant engineer was Halcrow and QS was Davis Langdon & Everest.
