GCH takeover saves more than 200 jobs at 55-year-pold Yorkshire firm
A Yorkshire-based modular building manufacturer has been bought out of administration by a privately-owned industrial manufacturing company.
Established in 1970, Thurston Group is a set of companies based in Wakefield which manufacture modular and offsite buildings for sectors such as healthcare, education, commercial and industrial.

The group employed 275 people and in the year to 1 November 2024 recorded a profit of roughly £4.1m on a turnover of around £47m.
However, “several business challenges” led it to formally instruct Leonard Curtis in November 2025 to conduct an accelerated mergers and acquisitions process to identify a purchaser.
A sale to GCH Corporation, a privately owned group of companies operating in the industrial manufacturing and distribution sector, was negotiated and concluded on 22 December 2025, saving more than 200 jobs.
Cassie Hutchings, chief executive of GCH Corporation, said: “Thurston is a respected UK manufacturer of modular buildings with a strong heritage and deep sector expertise.
“As a long-term, privately owned industrial group, GCH is committed to stabilising and investing in the business. We are excited to welcome Thurston into the GCH family and look forward to supporting its next phase of growth.”
Hilary Pascoe, one of three joint administrators appointed from Leonard Curtis, added: “We are delighted to have completed a sale and wish the new owners every success.”
