Mowlem accuses Bath council of being unprofessional and underhand after council boots contractor off troubled scheme.

Mowlem has launched a bitter attack on Bath and North East Somerset Council after leaving Bath Spa yesterday.

The contractor said that B&NES were “uncooperative, unprofessional and underhand” according to the Western Daily Press and it accused the council of employing underhand tactics to force it off the troubled Bath Spa project.

On Friday the council announced it was booting Mowlem off the project and gave them until midday yesterday to pack up their tools. Mowlem sent a letter asking for more time but then decided to quit the site later in the afternoon, warning B&NES that it would see them again in court.

The councillor responsible for the Spa Nicole O’Flaherty said that she was relieved to see Mowlem go and said that Mowlem was responsible for a catalogue of errors, and omissions.

Mowlem accused the council of breaching its contract and said that the council did not give it enough time to fix a leaking floor.

In a statement Mowlem said: “We remain certain of our position and are confident that the costly and lengthy round of legal disputes to which B&NES now seem to have condemned themselves and the council tax payers of Bath will go in our favour.”
