Tallest building at Allies and Morrison’s Devonshire Square project will be 39 storeys

A multi-tower residential scheme by Allies and Morrison on the Old Kent Road in south London has been given the green light by local planners.

The Devonshire Square project was given a resolution to grant planning at a Southwark council virtual planning meeting last week.

Landowner Barkwest has promised up to 565 homes along with 4,700 sq m of employment space at a site opposite a planned Bakerloo Line station.

The tallest building earmarked for the scheme is 39 storeys with another stepped tower running up to 22 storeys. The remaining buildings will be 12, 10 and three storeys respectively.

Consultants working on the scheme include planning firm DP9, cost consultant ABC Construction, engineers McBains and Pell Frischmann and landscape practice Turkington Martin.

Shaw Corporation is heading up the discussions with registered social housing providers with around 230 of the new homes set for social rent and shared ownership.

Work on the development is set to start next year.

The Old Kent Road is undergoing a major transformation with a scheme by Farrells to turn a former carpet warehouse into more than 250 homes given planning recently. That scheme’s developer Avanton is ploughing £800m into three schemes that will total more than 2,000 homes.
