Princess Anne this week opened the multimillion-pound navy fleet headquarters in Portsmouth, designed by Midlands-based architect Pick Everard. The Henry Leach Building provides the commander-in-chief and his staff with a desk 20 m from the water’s edge at Whale Island. The external elevations alludes to the historic structures in and around Portsmouth and other naval dockyards.
