Balfour Beatty delivered two sustainable park-and-ride sites for City of York Council last month in time to help ease congestion in the city as the Tour de France passed through on Sunday.

The Askham Bar Park & Ride and Poppleton Park & Ride (pictured) sites were worth £18m together and included the provision of substations to supply electricity to charge electric buses on the UK’s first all-electric park & ride route.

The Askham Bar site sat on a sub-base of reclaimed heavily compacted landfill, with gas vents installed to allow gases from the rubbish to escape harmlessly.
