London Underground wants to improve underground station in time for 2012 Olympics

London Underground has applied for planning permission to upgrade Green Park Tube station in time for the 2012 Olympics.

If given the go-ahead, the scheme would provide step-free access from the street to platform level. Work would be completed in 2011.

The project would see a larger station entrance on the south side of Piccadilly and a sheltered canopy for bus passengers.

London mayor Boris Johnson said: “I am determined for every resident and visitor to this city, whether able bodied or with disability, to be able to use public transport safely and easily.”

London Underground said it would also work with Westminster City Council and The Royal Parks to improve the public space around the station and open up views into the park.
