John McAlsan + Partners and Avanti Architects walk away with two trophies each

Architects John McAlsan + Partners and Avanti Architects have each received two awards from RIBA for preserving Britain’s architectural heritage.

Schemes masterminded by the practices were among seven projects recognised by RIBA under its first Conservation Awards, which reward commitment to conserving the heritage of a site.

John McAslan + Partners received awards for the restoration of Peter Jones’ flagship store on Sloane Square, and for its work on 78-80 Derngate, Northampton. Avanti Architects was recognised for its conservation of the 1934 Ikoson’s apartments in Belsize Park, originally designed by Wells Coates, and for a private house scheme in Hampstead.

Other winners were Hopkins Architects, Sprately & Woodfield and Stuart Page Architects.
