CITB-ConstructionSkills closes courses at scaffolding centre MRB Training Services and withdraws qualification approval.

Training body CITB-ConstructionSkills has blocked a Scottish scaffolding centre from offering industry qualifications.

CITB-ConstructionSkills and the Scottish Qualifications Authority have closed courses at scaffolding centre MRB Training Services, Glasgow, with immediate effect. The ban follows an investigation into assessment practices at the centre.

The closure applies to SVQs in scaffolding, entitled Accessing Operations and Rigging. The move follows a temporary suspension in October 2005, which initially blocked the centre from certificating the SVQs.

A CITB-ConstructionSkills spokesperson said: "In view of the lack of evidence of appropriate assessment practice in the above qualifications, over the period of the investigation, and the quality criteria not being met, qualification approval was withdrawn.

CITB-ConstructionSkills claims further investigation into the MRB Scaffolding Modern Apprenticeship identified irregularities in the scheme criteria for both employers and candidates.

CITB-ConstructionSkills and the SQA say they will help and support employers and the candidates that are registered with MRB in finding alternative centres where candidates can complete their SVQ.
