Architect shedkm and developer Taylor Woodrow will design and build scheme on 6,750m2 plot in East Manchester Millennium Community.

Taylor Woodrow and shedkm architects have won a design competition at New Islington Millennium Community in East Manchester. The scheme, a brainchild of Will Alsop, is one of seven Millennium Communities managed by the national regeneration agency English Partnerships.

There were 25 entrants in the competition to design and develop a residential scheme on the 6,750 m sq plot. Taylor Woodrow and shedkm were selected on the strength of their approach to affordable housing and environmentally sustainable development and because of their innovative designs.

Judges said: “[The] proposal for timber frame ‘green’ building is a radical reworking of timber frame technology… it’s exactly what we were looking for to broaden the architectural mix in this extremely challenging project.”
