Foster, Atkins and Mace among big names selected for excellence in construction in the Gulf region shortlist

The shortlist for the first ever Gulf State Building Awards, which celebrate the highest standards in the region’s construction industry, has been announced.

Competitors range from world famous names such as Foster and Partners, the architect behind the zero carbon Masdar city planned for Abu Dhabi, and Atkins, the engineer responsible for the Bahrain World Trade Center, to spectacular projects such as The Palm Jumeirah in Dubai and Bahrain Financial Harbour.

Entries were invited from companies in the six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai on Thursday 13 November 2008.
