… and the South Bank

The British Film Institute has shortlisted eight architects for the design of its new film centre – part of Rick Mather's masterplan for the South Bank arts complex in London.

The shortlist is Bennetts Associates, Burrell Foley Fischer, David Chipperfield Architects, Erick van Egeraat-EEA, Tim Foster, Harper Mackay, Panter Hudspith, and Ian Ritchie Architects.

The centre is scheduled to open in 2004/05 and will integrate the BFI's public services into one facility.

The winner will be announced in April, along with the architect selected to design the Jubilee Gardens/Hungerford site that will include a concert hall, multiplex cinema and a car park.
