Contractor Skanska is to change the way it reports its financial results to make its performance more transparent.
The main change is that the group's contracting and housebuilding arms will make separate reports for each country they operate in.

The move, which is part of a general review of Skanska's business, is intended to make it easier to measure the return on capital employed in each market – this is "the key determining factor in all businesses", according to the review.

Other conclusions of the review are that Skanska will also pull out of peripheral markets such as Hungary and Latvia, as well as residential development in the USA and Denmark and limit its South American operations to the best-performing sectors.

Skanska will focus on countries where it believes it can become number one or two in the market.

Stuart Graham, chief executive of Skanska, said: "We need to perform more efficiently, prune businesses and reduce capital employed."
