The Whittle Arch, named after one of Coventry's most celebrated sons, jet engine inventor Sir Frank Whittle, is the third phase of the refurbishment of the city centre. Designed by MacCormac Jamieson Prichard and engineer Whitbybird, the scheme is made up of two arches spanning 50 m and rising more than 15 m. It is due for completion next month. The client is the Coventry Phoenix Initiative, lighting designer is Speirs and Major, arch manufacturer is Westbury Structures, contractor is Thyssen and project manager is Ashgate Development Services.
