Carpet maker Desso is introducing its SoundMaster carpet backing, which it says can make a 60% improvement in the acoustic performance of floor coverings

It is made from 100% recycled polyester, and has a layered construction that Desso says offers optimal sound absorption and insulation.

Carpets in general gives an impact sound reduction of between 20 and 30dB. With SoundMaster, an extra 10dB is achieved, the company says. The product is available as alternative backing on the Desso’s range of carpet tiles. It is suitable for use in schools, offices, hospitals and other commercial environments.
