M&J Evans Construction works mainly for major housebuilders
Staffordshire-based groundworks and civils contractor M&J Evans Construction saw turnover and profit jump last year.
Revenue at the business, which works for major housebuilders, was up 16% to £374m with pre-tax profit up 112% to £8m. It said its order book was up 7% to £537m with net assets up £6m to £59m.

The firm added: “The business enters 2026 in a resilient position, notwithstanding a mixed near-term backdrop.
“Although uncertainty around timing remains and geopolitical tension and fuel price spikes have halted any further interest rate cuts, demand for new build residential property remains resilient.”
The firm said it has also started working in the utilities sector to carry out upgrades to existing infrastructure as well as last-mile utility connections.
It said income from this business was just £5.5m last year but added: “This [strategy] represents a deliberate diversification into a new sector, countering housebuilding cyclicality and supported by sustained government investment in utility network infrastructure with a resilient pipeline.”
