Work on the £36m refurbishment of St Martin-in-the-Fields is expected to be completed in June, almost two months later than planned.

The church, which is located near Trafalgar Square, was meant to be completed in April, to coincide with its three-week period of celebrations, which began on the 27th. However, the Renewal of St Martin’s festival had to go ahead while some of the construction work, including the external courtyard, was still under way. According to a spokesperson for contractor Costain, the overrun was caused by the complexity of the refurbishment and the standard of work required. “It was an extremely complex, high-quality refurbishment project – which is what we have delivered.”
