Croydon council struck developer Stanhope a blow this week by serving a compulsory purchase order (CPO) on the Gateway site in east Croydon.

The council has issued a CPO to allow developer Arrowcroft, the council’s chosen partner, to go ahead with its proposed arena-led, mixed-use scheme. But Stanhope says a large arena is not commercially viable for the 13 acre site, which it owns most of, and is instead proposing a scheme including residential buildings, offices and a public park.
