Arup and Thames Gateway Institute sign up with Tongji University in environmental technologies initiative

A leading Chinese university has signed an agreement with UK engineers to jointly promote sustainable design and construction.

As China's premier visited the UK on his world tour, engineer Arup and the Thames Gateway Institute for Sustainability signed a green memorandum of understanding with Tongji University.

The signatories, including University College London provost Malcolm Grant and Arup global research director Jeremy Watson, said the agreement would help both countries become leaders in environmental technology.

Watson said: "This partnership is a significant step in meeting the sustainability challenges faced by every nation.

“The creation of new and lasting links between Chinese and British research institutes, government agencies and business should result in policies and best practice to lead development and future design in China, the UK and worldwide."
