The UK Green Building Council is planning to set up joint working groups with the government to take forward plans to make all new non-residential buildings zero carbon by 2019

At last month’s Ecobuild, housing minister Margaret Beckett welcomed UK-GBC’s suggestion for a new Code for Sustainable Buildings, looking into how a move towards zero-carbon commercial buildings by 2019 might be achieved.

The UK-GBC set up a review of the definition of zero carbon for the communities department, and will now work with officials to take this forward.

It is also understood to be reviewing sections of the Strategy for Sustainable Construction for the business and enterprise department.
