The competition watchdog has asked for more time to examine Kier’s proposed takeover of services firm May Gurney.

In a statement today, the Office for Fair Trading said it required ten further working days to examine Kier’s proposed £221m acquisition of May Gurney, which was announced last month.

The OFT has been expected to conclude its examination of the merger by 23 May, but has now said it requires until 10 June to consider the proposals.

Kier’s offer for May Gurney trumped Costain’s proposed £178m merger with the service firm.
