Alfred McAlpine and partner Haden Young has started on a two-year project at Addenbrookes hospital.

Alfred McAlpine has started work with partner Haden Young on a key element of a £190m PFI hospital in Cambridge. The two-year, £75m construction project at Addenbrookes hospital comprises a new addition to existing buildings.

The seven floor, concrete frame building will house a 31 000m2 medical centre, which will include facilities for endoscopy, genetics and diabetes, plus critical facilities such as sterilisation units and operating theatres, and university laboratories.

Alfred McAlpine project director Ross Ballingall said: “Our ability to bring this type of project in against a tight budget, with unrivalled quality of design, and under challenging site conditions makes us well placed to deliver the new Addenbrookes Hospital facility.”

The centre is scheduled for opening in spring 2006.
