The Heathrow site was closed after the accident in a lift shaft on Saturday

A T5 worker was killed in a site accident this weekend.

The man, 44, who has not yet been named, was working in a lift shaft when the incident happened on Saturday. Unconfirmed eyewitness reports have suggested that he was crushed.

The worker was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services, and the site was closed. Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating.

It is the second fatality on the £4.3bn project, much lauded for its adherence to safety standards, since construction began five years ago.

The man had worked for the lift shaft specialist Schindler Group for about 20 years and on T5 for two years.
