Demolition ball snaps loose from crane causing mayhem on Pennsylvanian street

A 1500-pound wrecking ball came to rest in the boot of a car in Pennsylvania after snapping from a crane.

The site of demolition was part of a library at Allengheny College in Meadville, but when the 3ft-diameter steel ball separated from its operator it caused chaos on a nearby road as it rolled nearly three quarters of a mile hitting parked cars.

The ball came to rest in the boot of college student Alex Habay’s Ford Taurus. After being stretchered from his vehicle, he said: “All of a sudden, the back windshield exploded and I hit the car in front of me.”

The impact of the ball sent the car hurtling forward 20 feet into other cars waiting at an intersection. Three people were injured in the accident.
