Consultant confirms another round of redundancies as public sector money dries up

WSP has confirmed that it had “entered into consultation with some of our colleagues”, with the job losses reported to be in the firm’s highways division.

A spokesperson for WSP said: “The recent government spending cuts have impacted some areas of our UK business.  Where necessary we are taking decisive action to ensure we have the right size and shape of business for the future market opportunities.”

The company made 1,000 employees, around 10% of its global workforce, redundant in the year leading up to July 2009. Most of the losses were in the UK and Middle East.
