Keith Hill becomes parliamentary private secretary to the prime minister while Nigel Griffiths loses his job as construction minister.

Yvette Cooper has been promoted to minister of state for housing and planning in the post-election cabinet reshuffle. Cooper formerly held the more junior rank of parliamentary under secretary.

She replaces Keith Hill who has become the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the prime minister.

Nigel Griffiths is no longer construction minister. He is now parliamentary secretary to the Leader of the House of Commons.

The new construction minister has yet to be announced but is likely to be either Barry Gardiner, parliamentary secretary at the Department for Productivity, Energy and Industry, or the department’s minister of state Alun Michael. The DPEI has replaced the Department of Trade and Industry.

Former regulations minister Phil Hope has become a parliamentary secretary in the Department for Education and skills. He is likely to be replaced by one of the two parliamentary secretaries at the Office of the Deputy Primeminister - Jim Fitzpatrick or Baroness Andrews.
