Joint venture between Carillion, Atkins and Enterprise lands £690m Ministry of Defence contract for work on services accommodation.

A joint venture between Carillion, Atkins and Enterprise has won a £690m Ministry of Defence contract for work on services accommodation.

The contract, awarded to the companies’ Modern Housing Solutions joint venture, covers maintenance and improvement of 45,000 properties used for accommodation by families of those in the services. The contract will initially run for seven years, with the possibility of a three-year extension.

Secretary of state for defence, John Reid, said: “Service personnel and their families are very important to us, and we want them to have the best accommodation possible, and improve their quality of living as much as we can. We are confident that this investment will significantly improve the standard of living for service families across the defence estate in England and Wales. We look forward to working together with Modern Housing Solutions in the coming years.”

The deal is part of a continuing programme of improvement of all types of accommodation provision for the Armed Forces, and this is designed to improve the speed and efficiency with which works are carried out. The joint venture will have overall responsibility for the management and delivery of a project to meet the required specification efficiently and economically, including subcontractor selection and management, design co-ordination, planning and cost control.
