Balfour Beatty's Gammon wins £180m of Hong Kong work

Gammon Construction, the Hong Kong-based infrastructure contractor in which UK contractor Balfour Beatty has a 50% share, has won two new contracts worth HK$2.27bn (£180m).

The first contract is to construct a new train station at Kennedy Town, the proposed terminus on Hong Kong ‘s MTR West Island heavy railway line. Gammon will also oversee the extension of the line as a result of the new station. The overall contract is worth HK$1.34bn (£106m).

The scheme will deliver a new railway link to the Western district, one of the few remaining urban areas in Hong Kong that does not have a railway. The extension of the West Island Line will rejuvenate the area and create significant new employment opportunities.

The second contract, to oversee the redevelopment of the Victoria Park swimming pool complex by the Architectural Service Department of the Hong Kong government, is worth HK$930m (£74m).

The Victoria Park site, located in Causeway Bay, occupies around 24,000m2. The 55-month redevelopment contract comprises a 50m-long indoor heated main pool, a multipurpose pool and other leisure facilities including two skating rinks.
