Hammerson has appointed five architects to its £500m New Retail Quarter project in Sheffield.

Foreign Office Architects, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Hawkins\Brown, Pick Everard Architects, and Stiff + Trevillion will join the scheme. They join Building Design Partnership, the masterplanner, and Irish architect O’Donnell + Tuomey, which was appointed last year to the John Lewis anchor store.

Construction is not due to start on the 85,000m2 scheme until next year, a full six after Hammerson was appointed preferred developer by Sheffield council. The first retail buildings, including John Lewis, are due for completion in 2011.

The five architects will each be assigned individual buildings, and their designs will be unveiled this coming autumn.
