Captivating new buildings from the four corners of the globe, all of which dare to be bold with brick
A Levi-Strauss school building, Berlin:

This dynamic addition to a 19th-century school building is linked to the old school by concealed glass bridges. The architect was Christoph Mäckler Architekten, Frankfurt.

B No 1 Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester:

Allies and Morrison’s competition-winning landmark office building for Argent Group comprises a slick brick facade encapsulating an inner layer of glass and metal.

C The Hacienda, Manchester:

Architect Stephenson Bell continues Manchester’s brick tradition with this multistorey landmark comprising 161 luxury apartments. Flush joints promote a homogeneous feel to the brickwork.

D Casa Martinez, Buenos Aires: The extraordinary brickwork geometry of this house reflects the complex floor plan, itself generated by the requirements of a large family. Architect Pablo Beitia used load-bearing solid brickwork throughout.

E Toxteth TV, Liverpool:

Liverpool-based architect Union North created this striking ribbed brick facade to reflect the wide range of bricks seen in the locality. Fifteen different types were used.
