The BDA has appointed Dr Ali Arasteh principal structural engineer.
Among his duties will be to represent the brick industry on BSI and CEN standards committees and to work on technical publications. He succeeds Peter Watt who has returned to engineering consultancy.

After gaining a degree in civil engineering, Dr Arasteh achieved a PhD in structural engineering in 1986. He has substantial experience both in consultancy and in the precast industry, as well as research experience in the structural applications of foamed concrete. More recently, he has worked as a Technical Projects Manager for a major manufacturer of concrete blocks, where he played a key role in the development of structural systems and value engineering. Dr Arasteh is married with two children.
