What options are we exploring, apart from wind farms, as alternative energy sources?

This is the only source people seem to consider or understand. If what we are trying to achieve is a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, what consideration is being given to improving the efficiency of the proposed fossil-fuel power stations, which waste a significant proportion of their energy as heat? Also, as part of a reliable energy strategy, what proportion of future growing demand will be satisfied by wind power, which by its nature is unreliable in any one particular location
