Three firms battled it out for this award, sponsored by Property Week, but FPDSavills won the contest for its heavyweight research capability

Winner

FPDSavills

With such major schemes as Quintain’s New Wembley, FPDSavills demonstrate, said the judges, “impressive evidence of their active involvement in the market.” The company’s new homes development team advised on 23,640 acres of strategic development land last year and bought and sold 736 acres of land, 82% of which was brownfield. The company is well known for its research capability, which has been augmented by a dedicated mixed-use section, headed by Yolande Barnes. It was the research know-how that won the judges over. “Their research department provides invaluable information for the industry,” they said.

Finalists

DTZ Residential

DTZ Residential is one of the forces behind the 1400-home Park Central scheme in Birmingham, where Crest Nicholson, Optima Housing Association and Birmingham council are bringing about a major regeneration. DTZ’s role on the project has included providing information on the mix of homes, specification, phasing and marketing, in a project that is transforming a run-down estate into a new mixed community. DTZ generated 5000 plots for development in the UK last year.

King Sturge Residential

King Sturge Residential is the newcomer in the pack, having been fully established only last September. The company is building up its residential research strength with the appointment of a dedicated researcher and a monthly bulletin. Partner Ben Hudson has been appointed to RICS’ new residential faculty board as the first spokesperson on residential development. The company is handling the sale of George Wimpey City’s Great Northern Tower in Manchester.
