Sketch of the week: Arena Central masterplan, Birmingham

This week’s #buildingdoodle sketch is by Ken Shuttleworth, founder of Make Architects. He says: “This is of part of our Arena Central masterplan in Birmingham. On the left we have the first building to complete – HSBC moves in later this year. The listed Midland Bank is front and centre – as it is in the masterplan – and we are shortly to break ground on the new Birmingham home of HMRC at the back. These bound a new square which will be the focal point of the site. Drawing for me is so important – it is a way of understanding an architectural project that is different from any other. On this sketch, so much detail is missing and yet it still conveys our aims.”
