The latest software tools and building products with BIM objects to help integrate data as part of the construction process featured in this week

Revit piping packages

Wavin has launched its new Building Information Modelling (BIM) content packages for plumbing and drainage. The packages are built on Revit and allows the user to insert pipe systems and to quickly arrive at an accurate “as built” in a BIM project.

Wavin has also added a solution for junctions in a soil and waste system with the option to pre-programme all available junction options. To support users, Wavin has created tutorial videos on a dedicated YouTube channel, a downloadable training manual and training options for Revit modellers.

New BIM guidance website
BSI together with BIM Task Group have launched a new website to act as a source of best practice guidance, in order to help the construction industry implement level 2 BIM. The site is aimed at designers, architects, constructors, operators, manufacturers or suppliers and will provide a common point of reference for BIM documentation, standards and guidance.

ARCHICAD Live Connection
GRAPHISOFT has released the Grasshopper–ARCHICAD Live Connection. This bi-directional “live” connection allows Rhino/Grasshopper users to connect to ARCHICAD. The system allows architects to combine the three design environments – Rhino, Grasshopper and ARCHICAD – to combine the early stage design and BIM, allowing basic geometrical shapes to be translated into full BIM elements while maintaining algorithmic editing functionality.

BIM for landscape
The first book to focus on the implementation of BIM processes in landscape and external works, BIM for Landscape, will educate the environment sector, such as clients, contractors and manufacturers throughout the supply chain to understand how they can implement BIM. The book, produced by the Landscape Institute, contains three sections, providing guidance for business leaders, project managers and technicians, as well as a strategic roadmap to achieving BIM for landscape architects. The book explains how BIM processes can be brought into landscape projects to enhance collaboration with other professionals and clients, streamline information processes and improve decision-making.

New online U-value calculator

Rockwool has launched an online U-value calculator which has BIM objects for downloading. The new U-value calculator calculates the thermal performance of walls, floors and roofs, and also creates BIM objects for the desired construction. There are over 2,500 calculations available, which have been certified under the BBA/TIMSA U-value competency scheme. Users are also able to download BIM objects for the whole build-up.

New eLearning platform
BRE Academy has launched an eLearning platform, designed to meet the changing needs of the construction operatives, professionals and leaders in the UK and around the world. The online platform will initially offer 25 courses, designed to be time-efficient and aimed at organisations requiring an update on their skills. The courses include BIM Essentials, BREEAM Associate and Risk in Construction, and the courses carry recognised qualifications and CPD certification.
