This week’s #buildingdoodle sketch is by Amsterdam-based researcher and artist Carlijn Kingma. The dystopian illustration,The Babylonian Tower of Modernity, is the winner of the hand-drawn category in the Architecture Drawing Prize 2018.

She says: “This drawing recasts the story of the Tower of Babel in light of the modern religion of capitalism. Rather than connecting or uniting us, social media and the new tools of digital communication that have emerged through post-industrial capitalism are leading to an ever more polarised society and public sphere, distinctly at odds with the technological dream of progress.”
