Cartwright Pickard Architects has won a competition to design sustainable housing using steel.

The scheme, in the Thames Gateway, will consist of 32 apartments ranging from bedsits to family homes. All will be made of volumetric steel modules, which will be developed by the world’s 11 largest steel makers, in association with a yet to be decided developer. Organised by Living Steel, an association of steel makers, the international competition attracted 1,100 entries from 88 countries.
