Four-year extension worth more than £20m per annum to support services group.

Support services group Alfred McAlpine plc has won a four-year extension to its contract with Central Networks, which operates the electricity distribution network across central England in a deal worth in excess of £80m.

The contract covers the design, project management and delivery of cable, overhead line and sub-station networks, and has a potential extension of a further five years.

In a separate contract, Alfred McAlpine has won a new client, Scottish & Southern Energy plc, for whom it will construct low-voltage overhead line works valued at £10.5m over five years.

Ian Grice, chief executive of Alfred McAlpine said: "As anticipated, market conditions across the utilities sector are showing signs of improvement. Following the re-shaping of our business, we are well positioned to take advantage of the anticipated increases in workflow as the regulatory spend is released."
