Construction services group Allen is introducing an intranet to link its countrywide building divisions.
The move is one measure the group is implementing to turn around the division's fortunes following a £1.1m loss in the six months to 1 October 2000.

The building division plans to roll out the system across its seven regional offices in a year. It will cover everything from marketing to tendering and procurement The new IT strategy is being led by national IT manager James Eastwood from the firm's office in Keighley, Yorkshire.

Last year's losses led to the winding down of the Allenbuild Projects office, also in Yorkshire, which was largely responsible for the division's poor performance.

A quality control drive should put us in good stead with the public sector

Nick Davies, Allen

Managing director Nick Davies, who joined from Mansell, said the division was also looking to take in a greater mix of work in future, rather than relying on large projects.
