British engineering giant Atkins has signed a joint venture with Assystem, a French nuclear specialist, to take advantage of the growing international market for atomic power stations

The Nuclear Atkins Assystem Alliance will be a 50/50 joint venture providing consultancy and engineering services to the 60 countries either using or considering developing a nuclear power capability.

Of the 27,000 employees at Atkins and Assystem, 3,000 have professional nuclear skills.

Assystem already works with Areva and EDF in France, the two firms that are building the UK’s first new nuclear reactor for 30 years, at Hinkley Point in Somerset.

The joint venture will have its headquarters in France, but both companies will serve their home markets independently.
