Former Mace man retired at the end of last month after nearly 40 years in industry
Avison Young has moved to replace Steve Mason, the head of its project management business in London who retired at the end of last month.
Mason’s role has now been absorbed by Graham Fairhurst, the firm’s principal and managing director of its building and project management business.
Mason, one of the founders of Mace’s cost consulting arm, joined in July 2024 but in a post on LinkedIn said he was calling time on a career that began in 1987 as a trainee QS with Costain.

“It is my time at Mace Group that I will remember most fondly, where I spent nearly 25 years.
“I consider myself very fortunate to have been part of the Mace business at such a transformative time and along with my colleagues in the Mace cost consultancy team to have been part of the journey towards what the business has become today.”
After leaving Mace, Mason joined Gleeds as executive director of its London business in early 2022.
He added: “Rounding off my career with Gleeds and Avison Young has given me the opportunity to challenge myself with new types of roles in the twilight of my career and I shall always be grateful for those experiences.”
