Berkeley scoops four awards including Personality of the Year which was won by Tony Pidgley.

Galliford Try has won Contractor of the Year at the 2004 Regeneration Awards held last night at the Hilton Hotel in London. It fought the challenges of Alfred McAlpine Capital Projects, Carillion, Envirotreat and Higgins Construction to take the title.

The judges said that Galliford Try were so successful in regeneration and commercial terms that they “had to win the award”. Notable projects completed recently included Ibex House in east London, which was built on the site of a pub and delapidated terrace housing, and Friendship House in south London.

Also honoured at the event was Tony Pidgley, who won Personality of the Year. The judging panel said: “Tony has led the Berkeley Group with vision, personal passion, commitment and fervent dedication right to the forefront of the regeneration challenge.”

The award capped a successful night for Berkeley, which won three other awards: Regeneration Housebuilder of the Year; Best Housing-led Regeneration Project; and Best Building Transformation.
