Berkeley Group has won planning approval for its new modular housing factory in Ebbsfleet, Kent.

The housebuilder wants to build a 150,000ft2 facility and a 15,500ft2 office building on a 10-acre site in the town of Northfleet.

It will produce finished modules that can be used to build up to 1,000 new homes per year, complete with plumbing, electrics, and internal finishing, including flooring and fittings.

Berkeley’s plans to enter into modular housing manufacturing were revealed by Building in June.

The project is expected to create up to 240 jobs in Ebbsfleet Garden City’s Enterprise Zone.

The factory will also have 220 car parking spaces and 94 cycle spaces all hidden behind substantial landscaping.
