Toxteth TV is overall champion at record-breaking gala dinner in London

Toxteth TV, an inspired TV and community facility in Liverpool, has taken the Building of the Year and the Best Public Building categories in the BDA Brick Awards held at the Grosvenor House in London last November.

Designed by architect Union North, the eye-catching structure uses raw, low cost and reclaimed materials to produce a dynamic exterior notable for its eye-catching striped brickwork. The judges thought the project was a fine example of how an innovative brick building could raise the tone of an entire neighbourhood (see pages 8-10).

This year’s Brick Awards was notable for its record number of entries. BDA director Michael Driver said: “The Brick Awards celebrates the very best in contemporary brickwork and has become an important event in the construction industry calendar. This year there was a higher number of entries than ever before with correspondingly higher standards of design and craftsmanship. We hope the Brick Awards will act as further inspiration to architects and engineers throughout the land.”
