Wall Engineering first to sign up to carbon reduction commitment

Legislation affecting the construction industry including the carbon reduction commitment and structural eurocodes take effect today.

The carbon reduction commitment requires organisations using more than £500,000 worth of energy each year to register with the Environment Agency from today.

In future years starting from April 2011 this data will be used to compile a league table where companies producing more carbon emissions than the average will have to purchase carbon credits. The money will be used to reward companies producing less carbon than the average.

The Environment Agency said Norfolk-based structural steel and fabrication company Wall Engineering was the first organisation to register.
