A Costain-led consortium has reached financial close on a £92m schools PFI project in Kent.

Costain heads a consortium that will include Bilfinger Bert BOT and William Verry. The client is Kent county council. Work started on the project this month.

Costain will be responsible for the design and construction of three of the six schools, work that has an estimated value of £46m.

Andrew Wyllie, Costain’s chief executive, said: “We are delighted to have reached financial close on this project.

“Education is a key market for the group as we continue to focus on sectors in which we have a well developed skills base and extensive experience.”

The Kent project is the second PFI contract secured by Costain in the last three months. In July the firm was appointed on a project in Ealing, west London.
